Reading Toolbelt for Reading Strategies - Mrs. B's First Grade

Reading Toolbelt for Reading Strategies

I am SO excited to be linking up with my friend Jennifer from A Dab of Glue Will Do for Winner Wednesday! Winner Wednesday is the first Wednesday of every month. I will pick a popular product from my store, explain all about it and then you can enter to win it! To enter, all you have to do is submit your name. Super easy!
This month I am featuring my Reading Toolbelt. To see the product in my store, click here. Although this product does not get as much attention on my blog, we probably use it the most often in the classroom!

As I teach reading strategies, I often tell my kids to "pull" a strategy out of their toolbelt. I found myself saying this over and over and then giving them other examples of strategies in use. I realized that my students would connect best if they actually had a visual using the toolbelt theme! That is when I made the product and have used it ever since.

The product has a large sheet of strategies and a smaller bookmark size. I send the bookmarks home with my students. I have also included specific explanations on how to use each strategy. I have found that the strategies make sense to myself, but might not to parents.
As I am teaching I keep my large sheet out on my table. It helps me to help students pick a strategy when they come to a unknown word. I find it helpful for my students to have a visual reminder. Without it they are more likely to just skip the word.
If you would like to win my Reading Toolkit, just submit your name in the Rafflecopter below! I will announce the winner tomorrow. Be sure to follow my blog so that you will know when the next Winner Wednesday comes up!

  1. I love this idea! I like the idea of sending it home so the strategies become ingrained each time they read!
