50th Day of School! - Mrs. B's First Grade

50th Day of School!

Do you celebrate the 50th day of school? It's one of my favorite things to do each year. Read on to learn about how we celebrate!
School Celebration
Each year the kindergarten teacher and I plan a 50th day celebration 50's style. This year it snuck up on us fast and I almost thought my friends would rather skip it. When I asked, they all replied that they DEFINITELY wanted to celebrate! I told them I needed their help thinking of activities. We created a Google Doc that we shared with the kindergarten teacher of ideas we came up with.
After sharing the Doc, I met with the kindergarten teacher so that we could plan out our day. We only have our two classes participate, so we wanted to keep it simple. We thought four stations would be perfect. We designed the stations to reflect what the students wanted. They didn't want a craft and they were most interested in movement activities. We also tried to change it up a bit because my students participated last year.

When the day came, we split our students into four groups and mixed kinder with first graders. We asked for parent help and taught all the stations before we began. We invited our kids and parent helpers to wear 50's attire which made it fun!

Station 1 - BINGO
My students requested a BINGO game this year. I didn't find any games out there, so I decided to make one! I had a lot of fun creating it. You can click any of the pictures to check it out in my Teachers pay Teachers store!

Station 2 - Photo Booth
We recycled our photo booth from last year...it is always a hit! This year, we printed out our photos right away and the kids put them on frames. They decorated them and added speech bubbles!

Station 3 - Dance Off
For our dance off, we found two videos from Just Dance for the kids to learn. We had the dance off in a classroom near our lunchroom. The kindergarteners learned one dance and the first graders learned another. Then, they had a dance off!

Station 4 - Exercises
The last station was exercises. We tried to make them as 50's style as possible. Some of the things they did included bowling, limbo, and hula hooping!
